This lecture introduces the participant to all forms of EEG activation procedures and discusses the reactions, contraindications, testing for patient level of consciousness during responses and potential artifacts during activation.  Sleep staging and normal sleep patterns (SEMS, Vertex waves, Spindles, K-Complexes, Non-REM N1, N2, N3, REM, POSTS, Lamda) are included with examples.  Onset of sleep patterns in the developing neonate and child are addressed.  Apnea and Narcolepsy are briefly discussed.  Hyperventilation, Photic Stimulation, and sleep as well as technical tips for administering these activation procedures, and normal reactions such as photic driving are discussed in depth.  Samples of various types of responses to activation are shown.  These include normal and abnormal responses to HV, and to PS, such as HV Build Up, Photomyogenic, Photoparoxysmal, Photo Cell Response, and those patterns activated by sleep.
